Open Windows is a feminist research cum adda center, based in Bangalore. If it could, it would sustain itself with endless cups of tea and lots of stimulating research.
The Purpose: We hope to open up the realm of religious discourse into the public domain of the secular; if we – the people – take these texts into our hands – then, we can do away with those parts that are misogynous and caste-ist and are fundamentally unconstitutional. We, the citizens, need to petition to the government to ensure that religious institutions comply with the laws of the land, and as India is a signatory to CEDAW – the nation complies with it and does not allow any institution (religious or otherwise) to violate it.
Lastly, and more importantly, we need to ask: how do we reinterpret the past as new models of interpretation emerge.
